What are they, you ask?
Let me start by providing you with a little history: Persimmons are a delicious, highly coveted and regularly consumed fruit in Asia and Europe. The persimmon, which originated in Asia, laid its roots in Spain centuries ago in the region of Ribera del Xúquer near Valencia (my hometown). It was here that something extraordinary happened; a new variety of persimmon emerged and we named it “Rojo Brillante.”
They say “Persimmon,” we say “Persimon®”
Persimon® is ripe and ready to eat when firm while Hachiya persimmons must be consumed when they turn soft and ripen.
The Rojo Brillante is unique – we are not just saying that, it really is! Its bright orange skin envelopes a seedless, orange flesh that delivers sweet mango / peach flavour in every bite.
This special variety, known as Rojo Brillante, had to stand out. In our quest to share this gift from Spain with the world, we gave it a mark of distinction: a new name. Daring to be different, we removed one of the ‘m’s and named it Persimon® (pronounced Per- Simon), like me. Persimon® is the brand name given to the Rojo Brillante variety of persimmon grown in Ribera del Xúquer.
Persimon® was trademarked as a brand in order to distinguish its features from other persimmons.
The trademarked name Persimon® is certified and protected by the Denomination of Origin Ribera de Xúquer. This D.O. guarantees exceptional quality standards. The D.O. designation is recognized by the European Union.
What is most important to consumers, foodies and chefs alike is, flavour! What also sets the Persimon® from Ribera del Xúquer apart from any other persimmon is that the entire fruit is edible and can be eaten hard or soft (to discover how to eat one, click here)
Why a Persimon®? A Persimon® from Ribera del Xúquer offers superb taste and superior quality. Those in the know choose a Persimon® from Ribera del Xúquer.
